Meet the Artist
Artist: Dawn Lipman
I was formally trained at Tyler School of Art as a painting major and graduated with a BFA. Today, my day job is graphic artist in the advertising industry. My weekend passion is exploring flea markets, thrift stores to collect vintage treasures. Put them all together and “Retro Remix” was born in 2014.
My artisan craft is “up cycling” vintage handbags. My studio is chock full with abandoned vintage handbags, discarded vintage jewelry, remnant trims, ribbons, tassels and lace. I create original artwork and photo montages for my handbags on the computer, printed to paper and run through a laminating/adhesive machine. The graphics are directly applied to the bag and the edges are finished with vintage trims remnants. Be prepared to be stopped on the street when strutting my up cycled creations.
But I can’t stop creating, I also craft one-of-a kind belt buckles and wrist cuffs. Blank buckle bases are filled with vintage jewelry finds, skeleton keys, brass drawer pulls, antique buttons, watch bands and parts. Once the collage is carefully laid out in the buckle blank, clear epoxy is applied which permanently sets everything in place and gives the buckle a clear gloss finish. Each buckle is a one-of-a kind sculpture piece and sold with a snap on leather belt.
My artisan pieces are sold on line at www.ShopRetro Remix as well as fine art and craft shows in the NJ area. Check back in February for my 2022 schedule. Your friends will love to own a one-of-kind piece of art.
